FTM Summer School starting this July - 6 July 2009
Whether having a ‘stay-cation’ in the UK or simply looking to expand your skills in fashion and textiles, why not try one of the FTM’s new Summer School courses? Open to anyone wanting to develop skills in a particular area and run by some of the best people in the business.
Changing silhouettes: A talk by Gillian Proctor - 9 July 2009
Wasp waists, flat-chested flappers, pneumatic Jane Russell type bras of the 50s, bodystockings, push-up bras, tummy control knickers….women’s underwear has adapted to changing times. Leading lingerie expert Gillian Proctor looks at the relationship between fashion, social mores and the lingerie industry.
Gillian Proctor is an established expert in the history of lingerie. She is an author and consultant on the subject and Programme Leader for Contour Fashion and for Fashion & Contour Design at De Montfort University.

Rigby & Peller – A talk by June Kenton - 16 July 2009
The FTM is delighted that June Kenton, the owner of Rigby & Peller, is able to join us for an evening’s conversation. Rigby & Peller is the legendary company established by Mrs Rigby and Mrs Peller in South Molton Street in 1939. A family business, it is now run by June Kenton, her husband Harold and their son David. There are currently six Rigby & Peller stores. June Kenton is a Grantee of Royal Warrant to the Queen.
June Kenton will talk about the history of the company and how it has adapted itself to fashion trends while also maintaining its high standards of customer care. She will be bringing some items of bespoke underwear from the company’s archive. more
'Undercover' - FTM @ the London Bridge Festival
Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July, 7.30 – 10.30pm
Two spectacular nights of music, poetry, film, catwalk and burlesque.
As part of the London Bridge Festival, the Fashion and Textile Museum has teamed up with events company 'I Think I’m Here Darling, Where Are You?' and event extraordinaire Albie Hueston to create two exciting evenings of unmissable entertainment this summer.
Each night a new delightful soiree set up against the museums fantastic exhibition. For two nights only the exhibition, drenched in glamour, knickers, corsets and bras will be brimming with musicians, poets, dancers and designers who will entertain you into the evening.
Tickets will not only get you into the exhibition but will allow you to discover some of London's hot new creative talents. An exhibition and a show all rolled into one.

Summer activities for kids - 2009

Looking for ways to entertain your children during the long summer break? Look no further than the FTM to find interesting activities for a range of ages to inspire and entertain young minds.
FTM curator Dennis Nothdruft returns with some of his inspiring workshops for aspiring designers and illustrators. Workshop participants will create original designs and develop their own templates as well as experiment with various media to create their own Super Summer Fashion Drawings!
