Museum Foyer
Display dates: 19 September 2014 – 18 January 2015

Vintage fashion is currently in vogue. This display coincides with the new book ‘How to Draw Vintage Fashion’ written by the Newham College Fashion and Textile Museum team and published by Thames & Hudson in October 2014.

With a step-by-step guide on how to draw a fashion croquis, the display and book offer top tips on how to draw key looks from the 20th century. Leading designer Anna Sui explains why the history of fashion is a great source of ideas for contemporary trends, while other industry experts discuss their favourite vintage styles and inspiration. Key accessories, including jewellery, bags, belts and shoes, are highlighted alongside an explanation of the design process, from creating a mood board and following a brief to developing a vintage-inspired collection.

The display and book follow the successful publication of ‘How to Draw Like a Fashion Designer’ by Celia Joicey and Dennis Nothdruft in 2013 based on the Museum’s popular drawing workshops for children and young adults.
