Thursday 24 May | 3pm-5pm
Be amongst the first to see Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern before the exhibition opens to the public.
Join us for tea and biscuits at this special afternoon preview event, immerse yourself in Orla’s world and revel in a riot of colour and pattern. Take advantage of the opportunity to shop the Museum’s exclusive product range designed by Orla Kiely to coincide with the exhibition and delight all things Orla Kiely.
Also available at the event will be Orla’s brand new, hot-off-the-press book, A Life in Pattern, £25, published by Conran Octopus to coincide with the exhibition. The perfect accompaniment, the book is a celebration of Orla’s entire body of work – of colour, of print and of a handbag loved by women all over the world.
Orla Kiely is one of the UK and Irelands most successful designers. Her stylized graphic patterns are innovative, influential and instantly recognisable. Since receiving her MA from the Royal College of Art in 1992, Orla Kiely has built a brand that captures the spirit of a world that yearns for certainty in tumultuous times. Inspired by the up-beat post-war years, her nostalgia is ours: for those optimistic days of economic recovery, youthful discovery and innocent certainty.
With a global audience in thrall to the rhythms and repeats of her designs this exhibition explores the power of decoration to transform the way we feel. With unique access to the company archives, the exhibition offers a privileged insight into the designer’s world – how she works and what has inspired her.
