Friday 26 May | 1pm
Meet the Exhibition Curator and Museum team on Friday 26 May at this special lunchtime event to celebrate the opening of the exhibition The World of Anna Sui.
Hear from Dennis Nothdruft, Curator at the Fashion and Textile Museum, about the process of selecting garments for the exhibition and why Anna Sui’s work is a key reference point for this year’s biggest trends. Discover behind-the scenes insights into the making of the exhibition and explore how the American fashion industry has evolved over the past 30 years.
The World of Anna Sui showcases the designer in the first-ever retrospective of her career. Anna Sui is the classic American fashion designer. From Gossip Girl Goth to All-American Prep, from Detroit to New York, from 1990s Grunge to 21st century Boho, her signature rock-n-roll romanticism reinvents pop culture for every new generation. Since her first catwalk show in 1991, Sui has shaped not only the garments, textiles, accessories, beauty and interiors which comprise her design universe, but also the course of fashion history. The World of Anna Sui features over 100 looks from the designer’s archive, presenting a roll call of archetypes from Surfers and School Girls to Hippies, Mods and Punks. This is the first time an American designer has been the focus of a retrospective exhibition in the UK.
The talk starts at 1pm in the Fashion Studio and lasts for approximately one hour including the chance to ask questions at the end. Ticket includes admission to the exhibition The World of Anna Sui and guests are welcome to view this before or after the talk.
Price £15 / £12 students includes exhibition entry.
