Join the curatorial team from the Fashion and Textile Museum and Orla Kiely behind the first exhibition dedicated to the celebrated designer.
Presented thematically, Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern explores all aspects of Orla’s creative output, from lifestyle and fashion ranges to use of colour and detail and the geometry of pattern. The exhibition will draw on an archive of over 20 years of work, offering visitors unparalleled insight into her methods and concepts, exploring sketches, mood boards, samples and a range of making techniques.

The event starts at 1pm in the Fashion Studio and lasts for approximately one hour including an opportunity to ask questions. Ticket includes admission to the exhibition and guests are welcome to view this before or after the talk.

Mary Schoeser is a freelance Textile Historian, President of the Textile Society and Patron of the School of Textiles, Coggeshall. As a celebrated author she has written countless books and essays including Textiles: A Concise History, Thames and Hudson, 2003, Silk, Yale University Press, 2007, and Textiles: The Art of Mankind, Thames & Hudson, 2012. Mary spent nine years as Archivist for Warner & Sons and thereafter a consultant archivist to numerous firms. She has since worked with English Heritage, National Trust and other historic property’s on facilitating restoration works. Mary is currently curating Orla Kiely: A Life In Pattern and has worked with the Fashion and Textile Museum on exhibitions, Very Sanderson: A 150 Years of Pattern, 2010, Pattern Watts’ Architect Wallpapers 1870 to today, 2014/15 and Art Textiles: Marian Clayden, 2016 alongside numerous other curatorial projects.
