Join Helen Jones from the Royal School of Needlework in this intricate one day workshop drawing inspiration from the museum’s current exhibition Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern.
Working with Orla Kiely’s popular ‘Linear Stem’ design in a variety of colours, participants will experiment with various ways of embellishing the ‘Stem’ print using a range of embroidery techniques such as Needlelace, Surface Stitches and Goldwork.
Stitches and techniques will be taught at the beginning of the workshop and samples will be available to provide inspiration along the way. Participants will complete one ‘leaf’ shape during the workshop and, time permitting; other pieces may be started. All materials and instructions will be provided; this will include your own embroidery kit which can be used to continue your embroidery at home.
Participants will also be taught how to wire the leaf shape allowing it to be cut out, shaped and moulded creating a multifunctional finished piece with many different uses.
