Little Black Dress launches - 20 June 2008

The FTM's brand new exhibition Little Black Dress was officially launched on 20th June by supermodel Erin O'Connor.

The exhibition explores the history of this powerful fashion icon,  highlighting the creativity of contemporary British designers in reinventing the genre.

Explore iconic make up through the ages with FTM and MAC - 20 May 2008

To coincide with Little Black Dress, the FTM and MAC are this July running 'Iconic make up through the ages' a masterclass with highly experienced make up artist Terry Barber. The class will explore and demonstrate the black lined eye and its many incarnations through the ages. Under discussion will be iconic women who have showcased the look, followed by a demonstration of the techniques employed to achieve it. Terry has worked with Liza Minelli, Diana Ross, Linda Evangelista, Dita Von Teese and Claudia Schiffer amongst others.

Little Black Dress - Diary Update - 13 May 2008

The excitement is building at FTM as the exhibition design is under way. We are very pleased to be working with the talented Michael Howells, one of the best in the business. I think I can safely say the show is going to look amazing…

The Talks and Workshop programme is filling up and promises to be really interesting.  Don't miss our Little Black Hat workshop with Mary Jane Baxter, a fantastic milliner. We are confirming dates for a host of talks with top designers and style makers.

We are also pleased to welcome Eleanor Thompson, Keeper of Costume at Brighton museum for a curator’s talk in the gallery. She will be joining us on Saturday, the 21st of June at 12:00 for this informal and informative session. The talk is included with admission on that day.

Countdown Diary - London's Little Black Dresses - 7 April 2008

To celebrate the arrival of the Little Black Dress exhibition to London, FTM wants to hear Londoners’ little black dress stories. Be it cocktail or classic, sexy or chic, whether you were wearing it when you first met the love of your life, or bought it to celebrate your divorce, we want to know!

The best stories (and accompanying LBDs) will be included in the exhibition. If you would like to be involved, please send a photo of your favourite LBD and the story behind it to exhibitions team at FTM.  Be quick though – we will be selecting the LBDs on the 30th April 2008.

Don’t Miss Disorder at FTM! - 13 March 2008

Disorder Magazine Discussion Panel
Fri 25th April 2008 - 6.30-8.00pm


What is like to run a magazine? How do you organise photo shoots with models, clothes, hair and make-up? What influences the photographer’s vision?

These questions and more will be discussed with a panel from Disorder, an exciting and innovative publication. The speakers will include a cross-section of editors, stylists and photographers. An informal question and answer session will follow.

Includes entry to the Peacocks and Pinstripes Exhibition.
