Elisabeth Hamlyn wins the prestigious Young Accessory Designer of the Year award - 30 June 2010
On Sunday 27th June young designer, Elisabeth Hamlyn won the prestigious Young Accessory Designer of the Year award, organised by Clothes Show London in partnership with the Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM).
Elisabeth Hamlyn from West Sussex is a contemporary knitwear and accessories designer, who found inspiration for her entry from the bold and colourful building of the Fashion and Textile Museum. Her winning design was a brightly coloured, pleated and knitted scarf, which will be sold in the FTM’s shop (Shop@FTM) and the FTM’s online boutique. Elisabeth will also receive six months business support, with advice from industry professionals to help her set up and develop her business and she will attend the FTM’s professional CAD course. more

Three finalists are shortlisted for the prestigious
Young Accessory Designer of the Year award
Sian Bostwick, Imogen Belfield and Elisabeth Hamlyn have all been selected as finalists of The Young Accessory Designer of the Year competition and the winner will have the chance to launch and sell their product in The Fashion and Textile Museum along with six months business support.
The prestigious new award organised by Clothes Show London, and in partnership with The Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM), challenged aspiring designers to create an accessory product that encompasses the FTM’s brand values and is suitable for sale in the FTM’s shop (Shop@FTM) and the FTM’s online boutique.
The winning designer will see their creation displayed at Clothes Show London on Sunday 27th June; receive six months business support with advice from industry professionals to help on how to set up and develop their business and make it sustainable; and could also see their design launched and sold in the Shop@FTM and the FTM’s online boutique. In addition, the talented winner will be invited to the Private View of the forthcoming Horrockses Fashions: Off the Peg style of the 40’s and 50’s exhibition and will be offered a place on FTM’s professional CAD short course. more
Horrockses Fashions – off the peg style in the '40s and '50s - 17 March 2010
Horrockses Fashions Limited was the manufacturer of one of the most respected ready-to-wear labels of the 1940s and 1950s. The company is best known for its full-skirted dresses that were sought after by women everywhere and were even worn by Queen Elizabeth II.
This new exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum draws together fashion photography, archive material, personal stories and some beautiful dresses from private and public collections to tell the story of the company, its role in post-war British fashion and the link between couture and ready-to-wear clothes over these two decades. The exhibition will look to recapture the feeling of that bygone age where a post-war Britain began to feel anything was possible. more
The Hub@FTM - celebrating London’s design talent. - 17 February 2010
Based at the Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM), the Hub@FTM is a vibrant new networking community for creative businesses, offering events that celebrate and support London’s cutting edge design talent.
The Hub@FTM is a new concept in socialising and sharing information and knowledge for creative designers working in the jewellery, fashion, accessories, homeware and furniture arena. The creation of this new network is central to the London Style project which is providing funding to allow designers to join at no charge. more
New programme of talks and workshops - 26 January 2010
The Fashion and Textile Museum winter programme includes a range of talks and workshop activities to complement the fabulous exhibition '30 Years of Pineapple by Debbie Moore', sponsored by ASOS.com.
This retrospective exhibition from 15th January until 24th February 2010 and celebrates the success of the Pineapple brand and its influence on fashion over the last thirty years. The exhibition features key looks created by Debbie Moore for the Pineapple label including the Body, the legging, cotton lycra dresses and the Boyfriend sweatshirt. more

The second successive Clothes Show London returns with the announcement of the inaugural Young Accessory Designer of the Year, supporting emerging design talent across the UK. Continuing its commitment to nurturing and developing young talent in the creative arts, Clothes Show London, with it's new residency at Earls Court, is organising a competition to find the Young Accessory Designer of the Year in partnership with The Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM). The competition is open to aspiring designers who have been trading for fewer than three years, providing a platform for young designers and their businesses in this highly competitive industry. more

The Fashion and Textile Museum is pleased to announce details of its collaboration with Sanderson - one of the world's most innovative and pioneering fabrics and furnishings companies - as it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2010.
The work of this most quintessentially English company will be showcased in a new exhibition which runs from 19th March – 13thJune 2010 and will take visitors on a tour de force of 150 years of English decoration.

The Shop@FTM has a range of collectable and original merchandise that has been specially created to coincide with the new exhibition Foale and Tuffin – Made in England, including some unique pieces from the designers Marion Foale and Sally Tuffin.
To celebrate the Foale and Tuffin exhibition, world renowned ceramic designer Sally Tuffin has designed 10 limited edition art deco style vases as well as a range of spill vases and highly acclaimed knitwear designer Marion Foale has designed a range of covetable hand knitted hats and scarves.
The collectables pieces are available exclusively at the Shop@FTM and also include a specially created Foale and Tuffin T shirt and a canvas shopper bag, both of which are printed with the distinctive logo from the exhibition. more

See the FTM as you have never seen it before! As part of London Bridge Festival the Fashion and Textile Museum will be staging a two -night extravaganza of live entertainment.
Taking place amongst the latest exhibition, Undercover: The Evolution of Underwear, for two special nights in July the FTM will create a spectacle of music, dance and fashion.
Developed by creative events company ‘I think I’m Here Darling Where Are You?’ each evening will offer a different line up but each will be drenched with glamour and style. Also in the line up is the uniquely fabulous ‘Johnny Blue Eyes’. Johnny, a firm favourite with artists such as Beth Ditto and the Scissor Sisters will be showcasing his creations on the museum runway, and devising various performances for your enjoyment. more

This new exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum showcases a new wave of Swedish design talent with the work of 13 fashion designers who challenge the stereotypical picture of Swedish fashion as blonde, functional and minimal. Since the late 1990s there has been a growing sense of a new guard emerging - putting the country on the map with a burgeoning number of fashion labels and designers.

Series of talks and workshops announced to support this new exhibition at the FTM - 13 October 2008
The Fashion and Textile Museum is playing host to a new exhibition entitled Billy: Bill Gibb's Moment in Time. Crowned 'Designer of the Year' by British Vogue in 1970, Gibb was an enormous talent and visionary who in the age of the mini skirt created beautiful, revolutionary, renaissance-inspired clothes.
Alongside this exciting retrospective of a man whose designs came to the attention of the rich and famous, the FTM is running a number of activities by leading journalists, designers and illustrators to coincide with the exhibition. more

Following on from the hugely successful 'Little Black Dress' in June this year, the Fashion and Textile Museum will play host to a new exhibition entitled Billy: Bill Gibb's Moment in Time. A new shopping destination for Londoners - The Fashion and Textile Museum - 23 June 2008
There's a street fast becoming known to those in-the-know as the place to go when looking for that quirky item for oneself or a unique present for that certain someone. The place in question is Bermondsey Street in the heart of fashionable Bermondsey Village, home to the newly revamped Fashion and Textile Museum. The museum, which is now owned and run by Newham College who took it over from its original creator Zandra Rhodes, has undergone a total reinvention including a cool, urban make-over. As part of this make-over the FTM is now home to a currently little-known shopping gem called the Shop@FTM, which supports up-and-coming designers and showcases their merchandise ranging from homewares to handbags through to hats, scarves and jewellery. more

The newly redeveloped Fashion and Textile Museum in London’s Bermondsey Village will open its doors to visitors in February 2008 with a brand new exhibition – Peacocks and Pinstripes – a snapshot of masculine style. This photographic exhibition is a portrayal of male style from the 1930s to the present and is the first in a series of exhibitions to be presented as part of the FTM’s redevelopment. more

The Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM) in Bermondsey, founded by Zandra Rhodes, is being redeveloped by Newham College as an up to the minute education, exhibition and visitor centre for contemporary fashion, textiles and jewellery. The redevelopment of the centre is due for completion in December 2007 with the first public exhibition scheduled for February 2008. more
