Pattern Making on a Mannequin / 1-day workshop

Wednesday 27 June / 10:45am – 4:30pm

Through modelling fabric on body forms participants will learn to make a bodice shape with calico which will then be transferred onto paper to create your very own patterns.

Led by Zandra Rhode’s dress maker Jolanta Cerniauskiene, this popular 1-day workshop will give you the know-how and confidence to work with high end fabrics such as chiffon and silk satin.

Copy your Clothes / 1-day workshop

Fridays, 10:45am – 4:30pm on either 8 June (Sold Out) / 20 July (Sold out) / 14 Sept (Sold out)

In this new 1-day workshop led by the Museum’s pattern cutting tutor and creative pattern maker Michelle Lewis, learn the skills used by couture fashion houses to copy elements of historical garments without the need to pull them apart.

Short 4-day courses in July and August for Young Designers

These summer holiday short courses are the ideal opportunity for improving your drawing, design and digital skills alongside other young people who share your enthusiasm. The Museum Young Designers Summer School offers students aged 12-18 the opportunity to learn and practice their design skills to create a portfolio of work.

Weaving Colour: 2-Day Tapestry Course

Saturday 4 – Sunday 5 August / 11.15am–4:15pm

Take colour inspiration from Orla Kiely A Life in Pattern exhibition and learn a traditional skill on this two day tapestry workshop concentrating on colour. Led by master weaver Caron Penney this vibrant and lively tapestry weaving workshop will develop an enquiry into colour and implement this learning via weaving.

Experiment with Heat Press Printing

Wednesday 8 August / 10:30am–4:30pm

In this one-day workshop students will experiment using a heat press by foiling and fusing materials. Towards the end of the workshop printers will also have the opportunity to transform an old item of clothing using the textile foiling technique.
