Tailoring Techniques for 17-19 yr olds - Saturdays

Saturdays for 6 weeks, 11th June - 16th July 2011
10am - 5pm (with 30 minute lunch break)

Are you 17-19 and interested in a career in tailoring – then this course is for you! To complement the FTMs current exhibition 'Tommy Nutter: Rebel on the Row', this course will give students practical skills and an understanding into the techniques and processes involved in bespoke tailoring.

The course includes the following main topics:

  • how a tailored garment is made
  • what materials are used
  • specialist hand sewing stitches
  • insight into how industry works, with a visit to Saville Row
  • an insight into career opportunites that are available
  • the development a portofolio of designs and practicle samples


Taught by a professional tailor, lessons will take place in small groups with a lot of individual tuition and advice.


Eligibility and Costs

No formal qualifications are needed to start this course.
This course is free to UK and EU nationals who were 16-18 on 31st August 2010 so will be free for all 17, 18, and many 19 year olds.
Materials and equipment for the course will be provided. There will however be some travel costs involved when visiting Savile Row on the fifth week of the course.
