Drawing for Fashion Designers - Level 2

30 April 2008

Is the course for me?
This is a short professional course for fashion designers who wish to develop their drawing and visual presentation skills to support their own career development in the sector.

The course has been developed by ZiP (the brand name for Newham College’s fashion and textiles courses) to meet the skills needs of the sector.

What does the course involve?

The course introduces a range of drawing methods and media, and will encourage you to develop your own personal styling techniques. You will learn how to create original fashion templates from observational drawing and illustrations, and how to use the templates to develop fashion designs and illustrations. The course is delivered through demonstrations and practical exercises, with a high level of tutor support and regular review of your progress. You will need to bring a range of drawing media and materials and equipment to the course and will be sent a materials list before the course starts.

You will receive a course handbook and scheme of work at the start of the course, but please enquire if you need more details about the course content before application.

What options are open to me if I successfully complete the course?
This course will help you develop skills of immediate commercial relevance. To develop your skills further, you may also find it useful to take other ZiP courses such as Lectra Kaledo Style (illustration software) or Trend and Fashion Forecasting – a wide range of specialist courses are available.

Please contact our Customer Support Centre for further details of the full range of ZiP courses.

What do I need to get on the course?
You do not need any particular academic qualifications to be eligible for the course, but you need to be focused on a career in the fashion/textile sector and to have basic drawing skills.

How long is the course and when does it start?
The course takes place at the Fashion and Textile Museum SE1 at the following times:
Wednesday 6.30-9pm 30th April – 18th June 08 (eight classes)
Saturday 10am-3pm 31st May – 28th June 08 (five classes)

How much will the course cost?

The UK/EU home student fee is £89. If you are not eligible for the home student fee you will be charged the overseas fee.  UK/EU nationals who are unemployed or in receipt of benefits may be eligible for fee remission – please enquire. Assuming you already have paints and basic equipment, materials needed for the course will cost about  £20.
