The FTM Permanent Collection PDF Print E-mail

This focuses on womenís fashion from the late 1940ís to the present day. It includes significant examples from International Couture to Street Style as well as informal wear and accessories, and includes many important pieces kindly given by their original owners.

A significant number are the fully documented garments donated by designers featured in the noteworthy first fashion exhibition at the FTM, ďMy Favourite DressĒ.

The 60ís and 70ís collection is very comprehensive and particularly representative of London fashion. It is important in its own right and includes designers such as Ossie Clark, Gina Fratini, Bill Gibb, Jean Muir, Mary Quant and David Sassoon and complements the Zandra Rhodes archive. The Daks Simpson archive which documents quality menís and womenís fashions for the period supplements the more classical styling, sporting and informal clothing.

Note to students: the FTM collection is catalogued and students can view it by appointment.
