Illustrator for Designers (Intermediate) - Saturdays

Saturdays for 4 weeks, 19th March - 9th April 2011

10am - 2.15pm with a 30min break. Lunch is available from our stylish on-site Café@FTM or from nearby cafés and pubs

This course will give you skills and confidence in using Illustrator software to develop more complex designs and presentational material. Aimed at designers who have a basic working knowledge of Illustrator, the course will improve your use of the Pen tool so that you are able to create complex fashion illustrations or textile designs.

The course is run at the FTM in a brand-new purpose built learning centre equipped with the latest software and facilities, and tuition is in small groups with a focus on your particular learning requirements.

The course includes the following main topics:

  • How to create decorative design and patterns
  • How to create ribbing and stitiching to enhance designs
  • How to create trims and store them in a library

Session 1

Refreshing Skils

Creating a complex garment illustration

Creating complex stitch detail that follows any contours

Using step and repeat to create more complex decorative designs and patterns

Dividing a garnent or design into parts using divide below

Session 2

Rotating, scaling decorative patterns applied to garment/designs

Creating ribbing for collars and neckbands
Creating reusable accessories such as: cord locks, trinkets, studs fasteners
Using the pattern brush to create the following: realistic top stitching, straps, tapes

Session 3

Creating a denim jeans illustration

Applying realistic wash effects to jeans

 

Session 4

Fashion graphics and branding

Presentation techniques

Reviewing achievement on the course
