Setting Up A Fashion Business - 2 week intensive course

This course will provide you with an excellent understanding of the key elements needed to set up a fashion label in the UK. You will explore the personal qualities and business skills needed for success, understand what challenges may lie on the road ahead and how to deal with them.

This is a intensive two week course, run in partnership with product strategy specialists Buying Vision Ltd. It will be delivered by fashion industry and business support professionals and is designed to help you make the right decisions in planning and setting up your fashion business.

Cost: £495

Places are strictly limited on this course, with tuition taking place in small groups to ensure each student gets the best possible understanding of the process of developing a fashion business.

  • Learn the thought processes needed to develop a fashion label
  • Undertake stimulating exercises to develop awareness of the industry and how it works
  • Go on a journey - from developing an idea or design right through to setting up a label
  • Gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to set up a design studio
  • Review manufacturing options to find out what suits your needs best
  • Research competitors and learn from them
  • Develop a sales plan for your business
  • Write a press release and understand the power of a press and PR campaign
  • Understand how marketing relates to the fashion world and to your own business
  • Learn about Licensing and intellectual property rights
  • Complete set exercises both in-house and in the marketplace


Buying Vision Ltd
Sara Gatoff and Maureen Cook set up Buying Vision Ltd in 2003 to offer something different in the creative sector. They wanted to help designers and designer makers learn how to sell their products successfully to Buyers, and understand the pitching, buying and selection process from the buying and not just the selling point of view.

Maureen and Sara have extensive knowledge of the retail sector from their professional backgrounds as Senior Buyers within the UK Head Offices of major retailer including Harrods, Top Shop, Debenhams and Tesco. They are skilled in new product development, range planning and building and creating product strategies with designers out of concepts and ideas. Developing successful routes to market and understanding how to research your customer and target market are central areas of their training and mentoring programmes.

Sara and Maureen work with many creative designers across all sectors, from ceramics to wallpaper and shoes to jewellery. Their aim is for all clients to develop a set of business skills that can be added to their creative skills set so that a business can start, grow and flourish.
