Quilting two-day workshop

Date: 24 September 2011

Two-day workshop on 24 September and 1st October
Saturdays, 10am-4pm

This two day workshop will be an introduction to creative upcycling using traditional English patchwork and quilting techniques. Inspired by the Tommy Nutter exhibition, participants will work with materials from suit off-cuts to create a sample quilt piece or will be encouraged to begin a larger piece to be finished in their own time.

Day 1 will introduce you to English patchwork techniques, including paper piecing, sewn by hand.

Day 2 will introduce you to hand quilting techniques and to creating your own ‘stitched messages’ using simple embroidery techniques, inspired by the stories and lettering often found on old quilts.

Suiting fabrics will be provided but you are also encouraged to bring your own favourite textile pieces to use, and participants will be encouraged to join in a discussion about the stories and memories associated with these pieces.

Cost: £150
