More Joy of Stitch - Machine Embroidery Class

Date: 18 January to 1 February 2012
Wednesday evenings, 6.30-9pm

Led by leading textile illustrator Naomi Ryder, this series of workshops reveals the art and the potential of machine embroidery. Over three classes you will learn to create your own design as well as how to apply it to a textile item of your choice.

Week 1: Freehand machine embroidery
Learn how to set up the machine and how to transfer an image to fabric.

Week 2. Machine embroidery making lace
Create your own lace with the machine, experiment with dissolvable fabric and explore applique with see-through fabrics.

Week 3. Machine embroidery
Here you will create your own embroidery from what you have learnt in previous sessions, and apply it to a textile of your choice - clothing, tea towel, linen etc.

Naomi Ryder is a textile illustrator who is passionate about embroidery. She is based at Cockpit Arts and has been commissioned by shops including Southbank Centre and Mary Portas shop in House of Fraser.

Price: £100 - all materials will be provided. You are free to bring in any images for inspiration.
