Joy of Stitch Hand Embroidery Workshop

Date: 1 September 2012

Saturday, 11am–4.30pm

Join textile illustrator Naomi Ryder for a two part series revealing the art of hand embroidery. 'Hand stitching can be relaxing as well as fun and I will be happy to share my passion with you'.

During this workshop you will be taught traditional hand stitching techniques. All participants will have access to view the POP exhibition and be inspired by images from the exhibition.

Naomi Ryder is textile illustrator who loves working with embroidery. She is based at Cockpit Arts and has been commissioned by shops including Southbank centre and Mary Portas shop in House of Fraser.

Morning 11am-1.30pm Hand-stitching
During this morning session Naomi will be sharing with you various hand stitches form basic to more advanced. These will include families of running stitches, chain, satin, fishbone family, knots, fly stitch, feather stitch and herringbone stitch family. You will each create a stitched sampler of stitches for your reference.

Lunch 1.30-2pm

Afternoon 2pm-4.30pm Appliqué
In the afternoon session you will be taught various appliqué techniques including molas and hand-stitch techniques to work with this. Shadow appliqué, shadow trapunto appliqué and Bondaweb and will also be taught.

Price: £70 including materials and entry to the POP! exhibition
