Draw like a designer! Advanced fashion illustration for 12 - 16 year olds - 5 August 2010

FTM curator Dennis Nothdruft returns with his inspirational workshops for aspiring designers and illustrators. This workshop will cover retro style fashion drawing techniques. Participants will create original designs and develop their own 50s fashion plates. A drawing workshop for those who want to take their fashion illustration to the next level. more

Fashion icon Barbara Hulanicki will be joining us for a talk and signing copies of her Beyond Biba DVD. Tickets include a glass of wine, exhibition entrance and a signed copy of the DVD. more

Happening Hankies - Open Weekend event - 24 July 2010

As part of London 2010 Open Weekend the FTM is challenging visitors of all ages to come along to the FTM, get creative and learn how to do their own design and print. It will then be printed onto a white handkerchief that will be provided, and can be kept as a momento of their achievement!

FTM staff will be on hand to support and encourage those who have no experience of design or print or teach those with some experience more advanced techniques. more

Curator's lecture and book signing - 23 July 2010

The curator of our fabulous new Horrockses exhibition is Chris Boydell, a textile expert teaching at De Montfort University. This is an opportunity to hear from Chris herself with her infectious enthusiasm for the brand and all things Horrockses.

The exhibition, Horrockses Fashions: off the peg style in the 40s and 50s, is accompanied by a book of the same name, authored by Chris Boydell and published by the V&A. Chris will also be signing copies of it on the evening. more

Perfect Purses: one day workshop - 5 June 2010

On this one-day workshop you will design and make a framed purse for yourself or as a special gift. Off-cuts of Sanderson materials will be available but please bring along any interesting fabrics, beads, sequins and embroidery threads that you may also like to use. No previous experience is required and you will have a lovely new purse in time for the summer that you won't find on the high street! more

Advanced Fashion Illustration for 12 - 16 year olds - 4 June 2010

For those who want to take their fashion illustration to the next level, this workshop will explore more advanced techniques such as collage and painting techniques. Basic drawing skills are required to get the most out of this course. more
