Pineapple: Pattern Cutting for Lycra - Talk and Demonstration - 16 February 2010

Pineapple kick-started the stretch revolution with the creation of cotton Lycra jersey and was responsible for bringing dancewear from the studio to the street. Debbie Moore and Pineapple created such ‘fashion firsts’ as the cotton lycra LBD, footless tights and The Body.

However, designing and cutting clothes with this fabric is a great skill and this is a rare opportunity to learn from the experts as Debbie Moore and her team take you through the basics. more

Pineapple dance studio @ FTM - Urban Jazz Moves dance class - 6 February 2010

Pineapple is famous for its dance classes and this is an excellent opportunity to keep up that new year’s resolution of doing more exercise as it is bringing its expertise to the FTM for some one-off dance classes. This class will be overseen by renowned choreographer Louie Spence and will be a fusion of hip-hop, jazz, street moves and body popping. more

Pineapple: In conversation with Debbie Moore - 4 February 2010

Following the closure of the only dance studio in Central London, Debbie Moore founded Pineapple dance studios in 1979, in an old pineapple warehouse in Covent Garden with the aim of making dance accessible to everyone.

A former model with a head for business – she was Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the year in 1984 – you can hear Debbie’s fascinating story as Pineapple celebrates its 30th anniversary. more

A knitting masterclass with Marion Foale - 29 January 2010

Marion is still involved in knitwear design and production today and this masterclass will take us on a journey from her days with Foale & Tuffin in the swinging sixties to the three dimensional tailored hand knitwear she produces today.

A special limited edition of some of her knitwear will be available in Shop@FTM, specially produced to accompany the exhibition. more

Embroidery workshop with Naomi Ryder - 16 January 2010

Renowned textile designer and illustrator Naomi returns to the FTM to run one of her popular embroidery workshops. Learn how to customise your clothes and bring individuality to any item through different embroidery techniques from hand stitches to some freehand machine embroidery. more

Kekkon style Japanese wedding costumes - display and demonstration - 6 December 2009

Sunday 6th and Monday 7th December

Demonstrations at 1.30pm and 3.30pm

The display will show a selection of Uchikake wedding gowns and Kimono costumes worn at a wedding ceremony, with accessories and decorations.

Demonstrations will be given on the different styles of Kimono worn by family members for the wedding with a special presentation of the Bridal Couple in full attire.

Gallery talks will be given on Japanese culture and the display items, plus a film showing aspects of Japanese textiles and crafts. more

Jacqueline Groag - panel discussion - 5 December 2009

Accompanying our display of the work of textile designer Jacqueline Groag, authors of the book Jacqueline Groag, Textile & Pattern Design: From Wiener Workstatte to American Modern will be discussing the life and work this talented and influential designer. Authors Geoffrey Rayner, Richard Chamberlain and Annamarie Stapleton will discuss the historical context in which she worked and the milleu of modern design of the era. more

In conversation with Iain R Webb - 4 December 2009

Renowned fashion journalist and lecturer Iain R Webb will be in conversation about the timeliness of this new book Foale and Tuffin, The Sixties: A Decade in Fashion.

He will explore the journey he went on in putting the book together, conversations with Foale and Tuffin's many friends and collaborators and why the timing was so right for such a book. He will also be signing copies of his book which will be on sale in Shop@FTM. more
