Annie Phillips creates bold, vivid works of art using batik, an ancient form of wax-resist dyeing that can be traced back to ancient Egypt and variations of which can be found across the world. Join Phillips as she shares her experiences of studying with craftsman in Indonesia and Ghana, and her passion for this incredible and versatile craft.
Ahead of the opening of her display Annie Phillips: Ancient Technique and Contemporary Art, hear how she approaches her work with an infectious creativity and aims to share her love of this craft, making it accessible to as many people as possible. Find out how she adapts her artworks to produce a range of products through her brand Annie Phillips Art for living and her many collaborations with designers and architects.
Annie’s display Annie Phillips: Ancient Technique and Contemporary Art is located in the museums Fashion Studio and is included with tickets to Chintz: Cotton in Bloom.
The talk starts at 6pm and lasts for approximately one hour, followed by a Q&A session at the end.
