Design and paint a pattern for a home textile with Sarah Campbell. Under the guidance and expertise of textile pattern-painter Sarah Campbell, you’ll leave this workshop with enough hand painted cloth to perk up your home and make an accessory of your choice – a cushion, a wall-hanging or throw.
In this one-day workshop, participants will start by playing on paper with guidance on how to consider shape, colour, motifs and form when designing a pattern for a home textile. Acclaimed designer Sarah Campbell will guide the small group (maximum 10participants) through understanding mark making, colour balance and tonal contrast. You’ll be encouraged to consider your own colour harmonies and spend time experimenting with colourfast textile inks on linen.
People of all abilities and skill levels are welcome and there’ll be no pressure to produce finished work – it’s a day to enjoy an inspiring time and to learn and practise new skills to take home. All materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own favourite brushes, paints and sketchbooks too.
Sarah Campbell Ltd undertakes a wide range of projects from one-off design creations, unique pieces and commissions to textile design for the high street. Her continuing collaboration with West Elm, the US homewares company, gives a worldwide presence, as do the fabric collections with Michael Miller Fabrics. Nearer home, recent work includes designing work for a special celebration with Habitat, adventures into glass with Michael Ruh, a range of stationery with Roger la Borde, and a collaboration with Magpie in the UK on a collection of ceramics, Viva.
Price: £100 includes equipment* and exhibition entry.
* The fee includes entry to the current exhibition Night & Day 1930s Fashion and Photographs plus all materials: a selection of fabric paints, paper, linen to practice and one linen piece for the finished piece. Please bring a bag to take your work home with you.
