Paint a T-shirt with Sarah Campbell, 12-16 year olds

Thursday 12 April | 11.15am – 4.30pm

Aimed at budding artists aged 12-16 interested in studying art and design, this creative and fun workshop will inspire and motivate! Taking inspiration from the exhibition T-Shirt: Cult-Culture-Subversion students will design paint a T-shirt under the expert guidance of textile artist Sarah Campbell.

Beginners will start by playing on paper with guidance on how to consider shape, colour, motifs and form when designing a pattern for a T-shirt. Acclaimed designer Sarah Campbell will guide the small group (maximum 8 participants) through understanding mark making, colour balance and tonal contrast. Students will be encouraged to consider colour harmonies and spend time experimenting with colourfast textile inks.

Students of all abilities and skill levels are welcome and there’ll be no pressure to produce finished work – it’s a day to enjoy an inspiring time and to learn and practise new skills to use in school work or at home. All materials will be provided but participants are welcome to bring your own favourite brushes, paints and sketchbooks too.

Sarah Campbell Ltd undertakes a wide range of projects from one-off design creations, unique pieces and commissions to textile and surface design for the high street. Her continuing collaboration with West Elm, the US homewares company, gives a worldwide presence, as do the growing fabric collections with Michael Miller Fabrics. Nearer home, new work includes developing the Sarah Campbell Designs brand into fabrics, wallpapers and ribbons, expanding teaching commitments, and working on new book ideas. Meanwhile she continues to write a diverting blog.

Price: £100 includes materials and exhibition entry.
