House of Hackney: 21st Century Interiors & Fashion

Thursday 26 November / 6–8pm

After a decade of bland minimalism, House of Hackney was founded in 2010 ‘to take the beige out of interiors’. Beginning as an interiors label, husband-and-wife team Javvy M Royle and Frieda Gormley have since developed the business to also encompass fashion and accessories, and more recently, their collaboration with the William Morris Gallery archive. Their designs are showcased in an award-winning flagship store, located in a spectacular 2,000 sq ft townhouse in Shoreditch. Their collections of British-made prints and products are not only steeped in tradition but also bold and subversive, making a truly modern statement.

Meet founder Frieda Gormley to learn how her emphasis on quality and design, has helped House of Hackney to capture the zeitgeist and become one of the 2015 ‘Brands of Tomorrow’, as well as being awarded 3rd place in Time Out’s 100 Best Shops. Learn why print is at the heart of her vision, and why Ed Burstell, Managing Director of Liberty, calls House of Hackney one of his favourite design brands.

The event starts at 6pm with a glass of wine in the Museum foyer and opportunity to view the exhibition Liberty in Fashion; the ‘in-conversation’ event follows at 6.15pm for 6.20pm in the Fashion Studio and lasts for approximately one hour including the chance to ask questions at the end.

Price: £15 / £12 students includes a complimentary drink and exhibition entry.
