Thursday 24 May / 11am – 1pm
‘At the heart of everything I design is pattern.’
We are excited to announce that Orla Kiely will be joining the Museum team at this exclusive meet and greet event on Thursday 24 May. Join us for this fantastic opportunity to meet Orla and preview the Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern exhibition before opening to the public.
Orla Kiely is one of the UK and Irelands most successful designers. Her stylized graphic patterns are innovative, influential and instantly recognisable. Since receiving her MA from the Royal College of Art in 1992, Orla Kiely has built a brand that captures the spirit of a world that yearns for certainty in tumultuous times. Inspired by the up-beat post-war years, her nostalgia is ours: for those optimistic days of economic recovery, youthful discovery and innocent certainty.
With a global audience in thrall to the rhythms and repeats of her designs this exhibition explores the power of decoration to transform the way we feel. With unique access to the company archives, the exhibition offers a privileged insight into the designer’s world – how she works and what has inspired her.
Orla will be on hand to sign her brand new, hot-off-the-press book, A Life in Pattern, £25, published by Conran Octopus to coincide with the exhibition. The perfect accompaniment, the book is a celebration of Orla’s entire body of work – of colour, of print and of a handbag loved by women all over the world.
Purchase the book with your ticket and collect on arrival at the event.
Preview Ticket £15
