Monday 17 September / 11am – 1pm
‘At the heart of everything I design is pattern.’ – Orla Kiely
The Fashion and Textile Museum is opening its doors for a special Monday morning showing of Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern with the fantastic opportunity to meet Orla.
As one of the most popular at exhibitions ever shown at the Fashion and Textile Museum, we are opening our doors on Monday 17 September morning to celebrate the closing week of the exhibition. Orla will be on hand to sign her book, A Life in Pattern, £25, published by Conran Octopus. The perfect accompaniment, the book is a celebration of Orla’s entire body of work – of colour, of print and of a handbag loved by women all over the world.
Orla Kiely is one of the UK and Irelands most successful designers. Her stylized graphic patterns are innovative, influential and instantly recognisable. Since receiving her MA from the Royal College of Art in 1992, Orla Kiely has built a brand that captures the spirit of a world that yearns for certainty in tumultuous times. Inspired by the up-beat post-war years, her nostalgia is ours: for those optimistic days of economic recovery, youthful discovery and innocent certainty.
With a global audience in thrall to the rhythms and repeats of her designs this exhibition explores the power of decoration to transform the way we feel. With unique access to the company archives, the exhibition offers a privileged insight into the designer’s world – how she works and what has inspired her.
