Price: £190 | Book online
This two-day workshop provides a structured introduction to the techniques of painting on silk and a master class in how to apply colour inspired by the textile arts of Peru.
Following an introduction to the materials, artist and curator Hilary Simon will demonstrate different ways to create a variety of effects on silk using salt, layering, alcohol and methods of applying the dyes and gutta gum. The dyes are French Dupont which mix beautifully and run like vibrant watercolours and create stunning designs. Following the demonstration, time will be spent creating designs on paper and testing techniques on a sample silk square with chance to view examples of Hilary’s own work and inspirational Peruvian source material. Participants will create their own 15” silk square, with one-to-one guidance in their choice of dyes and approach. The workshop will culminate in the creation of a lager more detailed final piece utilising the variety of skills taught over the two days.
At the end of the two days participants will take home their new skill plus the test silk squares and completed works of art, perfect for framing, hanging or turning into cushion. The workshop is suitable for beginners and people of all abilities.
