In this one-day workshop students will experiment using a heat press by foiling and fusing metallic materials. Towards the end of the workshop printers will have the opportunity to transform a set of notebooks, cards and gift tags using the foiling techniques. Tutor Nicole Line will guide participants through the equipment and provide demonstrations in how to foil and combine materials.

The morning will be spent undertaking a range of experimental drawing and mark making techniques. Participants will then begin to draw and design ideas taking inspiration from the current exhibition. In the afternoon participants will experiment with printing their final designs onto a range of note books and papers creating bespoke stationery.

Beginners are welcome and for those who are curious about design processes and mark making this is a great opportunity to be inspired by the exhibition and experiment. All materials will be provided but participants are welcome to bring additional material with them if they wish.

Nicole Line is a sessional tutor at University for the creative Arts working with the Fashion & Textile Foundation students in Epsom, BA Textile students in Farnham & Graphic Communication Students. She has recently completed a Masters in Creative Education. Nicole works in other areas of textiles, collaborating with corporate companies and designers. ‘Tactility is very important to me as a designer and textile tutor. I see the students I teach as an extension of my practice and it’s exciting to see how they use materials within their own work.’
