Kate Beavis has been collecting vintage fashion since the late 1980s, but it wasn’t until 2008 that she decided to make it her business. Opening an award winning shop, the ethos was to provide everything for a vintage life. Fast forward 10 years, Kate is now a published author, blogger and writer about the subject as well as organising creative wedding shows across the UK and helping other indie businesses with their marketing. In this insightful talk, she will share how to turn a passion into a successful business, and share the wins as well as the watch outs so you too can do the same.
Kate Beavis started out in the vintage world as a collector and enthusiast, buying 1960s mini dresses as a teenager, then collecting homewares in her 20s. Today she has a home full of beautiful mid-century pieces, owns award-winning Magpie Wedding and writes about vintage for magazines and her own blog, which was runner up in 2017 Amara Interior Awards and a finalist in the 2015 Cosmopolitan Blog Awards. She is also Director and Founder of Indie PR, which helps creative indie businesses get noticed, using her 20 years in branding, marketing and social networking to offer workshops, coaching and support.
In 2013, her first book “Style Your Modern Vintage Home“ was published through FW Media. It takes the readers through from the 1920s to 1990s, focusing on buying, restoring and styling. With a foreword by Paloma Faith, a top 30 ranking on Amazon and selling worldwide. Kate has continued to write for various publications including being the Wedding Editor for Vintage Life and creating a monthly upcycling feature for Reloved. Her work has appeared in Closer, Homes and Antiques, Prima, Homes and Gardens, The Metro, The Lady, Inside Crochet, Mollie Makes, Homestyle, The Daily Mail to name a few.
