The legendary Dame Zandra Rhodes and acclaimed journalist, stylist and broadcaster, Hilary Alexander will be in conversation at this intimate discussion as part of the Museum’s Thursday Lates programme.
In this rare opportunity, discover Zandra’s journey from the Royal College of Art in the 1960s, to her place among the new wave of British designers in 1970s and onwards across 50 years of be ground-breaking, diverse and internationally popular collections. Zandra and Hilary will offer an exciting insight in to the world of fashion, via personal experiences, adventures and anecdotes.
Zandra’s unique use of bold prints, fiercely feminine and instantly recognisable patterns and theatrical colour palettes have sealed her place in design history, while her pink hair, statement make-up and wearable art jewellery continue to stamp her personal identity on the international fashion scene. Zandra and Hilary will also be delving into the design skill and personal brand behind five decades of Zandra’s vast and remarkably successful career so far.
Zandra will also be on hand after the talk to sign copies of Zandra Rhodes: 50 Fabulous Years in Fashion, £30, published by Yale University Press to coincide with the exhibition.
Hilary Alexander is a New Zealand-born fashion journalist, twice Journalist of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. She is currently the editor-at-large for Hello Fashion Monthly, and previously was the Fashion Editor at the Daily Telegraph. Her contributions to fashion journalism have been widely recognized, having been appointed OBE. Hilary has also won the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s special Eugenia Sheppard Media Award and has been named Visiting Professor at the University of the Arts London.

The event starts at 6pm with a glass of wine in the Museum foyer and opportunity to view the current exhibition. The talk follows at 6.15pm for 6.20pm in the Fashion Studio and lasts for approximately one hour including an opportunity to ask questions.
