Thursday 3 December | 6pm – 7:30pm | £5 | ONLINE EVENT
In this exclusive online talk, Zandra will be in conversation with our very own Head of Exhibitions, Dennis Nothdruft.
Discover Zandra’s journey from the Royal College of Art in the 1960s, to her place among the new wave of British designers in 1970s and onwards across fifty years of ground-breaking, diverse and internationally popular collections. Zandra and Dennis will offer an exciting insight into the world of fashion, via personal experiences, adventures and anecdotes.
Zandra’s unique use of bold prints, fiercely feminine and instantly recognisable patterns and theatrical colour palettes have sealed her place in design history, while her pink hair, statement make-up and wearable art jewellery continue to stamp her personal identity on the international fashion scene. Zandra and Dennis will also be delving into the design skill and personal brand behind five decades of Zandra’s vast and remarkably successful career so far.
Dame Zandra Rhodes DBE founded her eponymous fashion house in 1969 with a small collection. Her prints were Pop Art-infused commentaries on the world of Sixties Britain; the designer felt that there was inherent structure within the pattern that could work with and enhance the shape and construction of a dress. With this concept as a starting point and with her distinctive approach to cut and form, the house of Zandra Rhodes soon became one of the most recognisable labels in London.
Dennis Nothdruft is Head of Exhibitions at the Fashion and Textile Museum and curator of Zandra Rhodes: 50 Years of Fabulous.
