2005 marks the 25th anniversary of i-D Magazine. To celebrate, the Fashion and Textile Museum was proud to host the commemorative exhibition directed and curated by Terry Jones, the magazine’s founder, creative director and editor-in-chief. It encompassed two and a half decades of cutting-edge creativity traced through i-D's rich archive, from its beginnings in 1980 to the present day.

“The revolutionary aesthetic and philosophy of i-D Magazine have provided us with a bold monitor of our times” says Gity Monsef, Creative Director of FTM. “...The Fashion and Textile Museum is delighted to be collaborating with i-D for this seminal exhibition ...which will chart the 25-year history of our most visionary style publication.”

Using ‘identity’ as a theme it explored it on a multi-dimensional level, deploying, sight, sound, graphics and even scent, to epitomise the five eras that make up the magazine’s history. As a multi-sensory experience, the exhibition took the magazine into a further dimension and allowed the viewer to travel interactively, starting with its first straight ups to a new generation of talent who are transcending artistic boundaries and realising new standards in their respective creative fields. The exhibition was focused both on celebrating i-D’s retrospective past as well as setting the path for the magazine’s next exciting chapter, illustrating Jones’ belief that “[i-D’s] past is the foundation for our future”.
