On Saturday 26 October, the Fashion and Textile Museum exhibition Hartnell to Amies: Couture By Royal Appointment opens at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle.
‘Hartnell to Amies: Couture By Royal Appointment’ showcases the elegant, innovative couture of Hartnell, Amies and their contemporaries. It also explores how Her Majesty the Queen’s patronage of ground-breaking British designers helped put London on the international fashion map after the Second World War.
The exhibition proved one of the Fashion and Textile Museum’s most popular exhibitions in 2012/13 and was featured on BBC News and The Guardian. Also on display is a series of Norman Parkinson’s photographs of members of the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers commissioned by British Vogue in the year of the Queen’s coronation.
Gowns, daywear, suits and accessories worn by some of Britain’s most glamorous women are on display until 26 January 2014 Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery.
