Vintage at Goodwood

18 August 2010

FTM is back from Vintage at Goodwood festival which was great fun and, we are pleased to say, a big success. We ran a number of events and activities over three days at the retro fashion and music festival, offering visitors a taste of the Fashion and Textile Museum out and about and away from our usual Bermondsey Street HQ.

Dr Chris Boydell, curator of the current Horrockses exhibition, gave a talk which was fully subscribed and this was accompanied by our pop-up Horrockses fashion show - a chance for festival goers to see the garments featured in the exhibition as worn in real life by our team of models.

For visitors who wanted a hands-on experience a few of our regular tutors ran workshops at the Vintage Sewing School, including Vintage Knickers, Intro to Quilting and Make an Envelope Clutch. Participants to the fully booked workshops got stuck in using vintage fabrics and trimmings supplied by Oxfam.

And we received hundreds of entries over the weekend to our competition to win a free curator’s tour and a stay for two at the Bermondsey Square Hotel. Winner to be announced soon!
