My Fashion Look 2012: Fashion competition for children under 12 years old

23 January 2012

The Fashion and Textile Museum, in collaboration with the publisher Thames & Hudson, is seeking to inspire a new generation of fashion designers with a competition for children under 12 years old to create their favourite outfit for Spring/Summer 2012.

To be in with a chance of winning a prize and having an outfit displayed in the Fashion and Textile Museum, design an outfit – complete with hair, make-up and accessories – to head your Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Sketch it, paint it, collage it: how you choose to express your idea is entirely up to you.

Children are particularly encouraged to consider the processes of a real fashion designer – finding inspiration, making a mood board, gathering research, choosing colours, experimenting with fabrics, print and pattern, building a capsule selection of garments, and creating a ‘lookbook’ to show off the new range – and inspiration can be sought at the Fashion and Textile Museum’s current exhibition Catwalk to Cover: A front row seat (until 25 February).

Entry forms are available at www.thamesandhudson.com but please note that entries do not need to be sent on the official form providing name, age and school address are included – in fact all shapes and types of entry material are allowed with wacky and original ideas encouraged.

The closing date for entries is Monday 5 March 2012.
Winners will be awarded their prizes on Tuesday 27 March, and their work with other selected entrants will go on display at the Fashion and Textile Museum from 30 March to 16 June 2012.
