On Sunday 27th June young designer, Elisabeth Hamlyn won the prestigious Young Accessory Designer of the Year award, organised by Clothes Show London in partnership with the Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM).

Elisabeth Hamlyn from West Sussex is a contemporary knitwear and accessories designer, who found inspiration for her entry from the bold and colourful building of the Fashion and Textile Museum.  Her winning design was a brightly coloured, pleated and knitted scarf, which will be sold in the FTM’s shop (Shop@FTM) and the FTM’s online boutique. Elisabeth will also receive six months business support, with advice from industry professionals to help her set up and develop her business and she will attend the FTM’s professional CAD course.

Elisabeth entered the competition as she felt she would benefit greatly from the opportunity to launch and showcase her product at the FTM shop. “I am absolutely thrilled to have won and know that the business support will be really useful for my label. I am really looking forward to seeing my scarf in the FTM shop as this will be a wonderful opportunity for my brand.

The level of entry into the competition was extremely high and the judges were very impressed by all the young designers who entered. Three finalists attended the Clothes Show including runners up Sian Bostwick and Imogen Belfield, who were all chosen for their design skills, their interpretation of the design brief and suitability for sale in the Shop@FTM. FTM’s Commercial Director, Alison Lewy and Managing Director of Clothes Show London, Gavin Brown judged the finalists entries and felt that Elisabeth’s entry completely met the design brief and most accurately reflected the FTM’s core brand. “This new award aims to support and nurture aspiring designers in this highly competitive industry.” comments Gavin Brown, Managing Director of Haymarket Exhibitions. “With the support of the Fashion and Textile Museum the winner is presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their new product.”
