Thursday 23 October / 6-8pm
Do you know your stocking stitch from your moss stitch? Join Debbie Bliss, Britain’s most published knitwear designer, for an inside look at the business of knitting.
In the last 30 years, knitting has evolved not only as a craft but also as a key element in every fashion design collection. Debbie Bliss has seen her own work develop from selling knitwear patterns to magazines into designs for the high street, e-commerce, and the development of her own yarns. The opportunities for knitwear designers have changed dramatically, and Debbie Bliss will share her experiences from the satisfaction of bringing an Aran sweater into being to the excitement of designing patterns for others to knit. For the entrepreneurs in the audience, Debbie will offer her thoughts on the evolving knitting market, selling knitting patterns online and opportunities to collaborate with others. Whilst for dedicated fans she will offer top tips on yarn and sign copies of her new book, Woolly Woofers (Quadrille, published October 2014).
Debbie Bliss has over thirty years of experience in knitwear and knitting pattern design. Her thriving business has led to more than fifty publications and a range of luxurious yarns. She was recently nominated for the British Knitting Awards for Best Knitting Designer, Best Pattern House, Best Yarn Brand, Best Luxury Brand, Best Baby Yarn and Best Overall Yarn Brand. Her best-selling books Simply Baby and Essential Kids demonstrate her fresh and stylish approach to creating beautiful but practical knitted garments for babies and toddlers. Debbie Bliss also publishes the highly successful Debbie Bliss Knitting Magazine each spring and autumn. She works in her home studio with her daughter Nell and assistant Teresa. A selection of Debbie Bliss products will also be available in the shop during the KNITWEAR Chanel to Westwood exhibition.
